Whether you're brand new to painting or looking to deepen your skills, this 5-week foundational series is the perfect place to start. This class introduces you to the signature Art Adventures painting style used across all of Alicia’s programs. Through step-by-step instruction, you’ll explore essential painting techniques and artistic concepts while working toward two beautiful finished pieces. Using acrylics, you’ll learn how to create expressive brush marks, blend colors, layer for depth, and apply lighting effects to bring your work to life. We’ll focus on natural landscapes—practicing with elements like clouds, trees, and mountains—building up skills on paper before completing two canvas paintings: a glowing forest scene and a larger mountain-and-water landscape. This class is ideal for absolute beginners and for intermediate painters who want to expand their technique and confidence. Course Overview: Week 1: Brushes & Mark Making How to paint straight lines, outlines, stems, trees, etc. Techniques for painting leaves using different brushes Washes, rainbows, and atmospheric lighting Understanding the purpose of different brush types Week 2: Layering the Forest Creating layered washes and backgrounds Painting trees and mist in a wooded landscape Foreground vs. background: how to create depth Lighting techniques for a moody forest Week 3: Clouds & Water Painting different types and colors of clouds Techniques for water, waves, and reflections Week 4: Final Painting – Part 1 Work from a photo reference of a local landscape Sketching and blocking in the composition Building up the base layers of sky and water Creating mood through color and lighting Week 5: Final Painting – Part 2 Adding depth and detail Finishing touches to complete your final masterpiece Choose pay in person for the option to email money transfer, and the total can be sent to alicia@artadventures.ca
